In this regard, Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs, Railways, Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, in a review meeting held on October 31 this year, emphasized on increasing the distribution of nutritious rice in the country.

This requires increasing the supply capacity of FRK in the country to about 1.3 lakh metric tonnes. If the supply of rice from all PDSs which is currently 350 lakh metric tonnes is to be replaced by the supply of nutritious rice, the industry will have to increase the continuity of supply to 3.5 lakh metric tonnes of FRK.

In addition, at this time the country gets about 28 000 rice. Which will have to be equipped with blending machines. So as to mix FRK into ordinary rice. The FCI said it would partner with rice mills located in different sectors to make the necessary investments in the matter. With this operational preparation from FCI, the procurement and supply of nutritious rice can be successfully increased in a phased manner from 2021-22.
