This move from TRAI will require new customers to wait for new rules to implement number portability.
New Delhi: Good news has come for those who want to port mobile numbers. According to Trai's new rule, the mobile number will be ported in just two days. The new TRAI rule is set to go into effect on December 16. From this date the rules of mobile number portability will change. The new rule was to go into effect on September 30.
This move from TRAI will require new customers to wait for new rules to implement number portability. Under the new rule, the porting period of mobile number has been reduced to two days. In order to make the port system faster and easier, TRAI directed all telecom companies to port the number within 2 days of customer request.
Currently this process takes 7 days. TRAI issued the revised MNP rules in December last year and will be in force from September 30, which will now go into effect from December 16th. Earlier, telecom companies met with TRAIN on September 17 and September 23 to extend the deadline. He said he needed more time to test the new facility so that customers would not have inconvenience later.
Telecom operators had to pay different portability transactions for every mobile number. Under the new rule by TRAI, the fee is now fixed at only Rs 5.74. This will save the telecom operators in every transaction. Earlier, telecom operators had to pay Rs 19 for each new customer.
