Heavy to very heavy rains continue to batter many parts of Gujarat on Sunday as well. In fact, places such as Surat, Vadodara and Ahmedabad are already reporting rain and thundershowers and showers are likely to pick up pace during the day. Intense clouding could be seen over many parts of Gujarat and Saurashtra.
According to Skymet Weather, Monsoon 2019 continues to be active over South and Central Gujarat. With this, weather conditions remain conducive for heavy to very heavy rains on Sunday over the region including places such as Valsad, Vapi, Surat, Vadodara, Bharuch, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Bhavnagar, Botad, Mahuva, Amreli, Somnath, and Junagarh.
normal life in the city of Mumbai came to a standstill for the past two days as the city got battered by heavy rainfall during the weekend. Not just Mumbai but other states including Gujarat, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh are also witnessing heavy rains. NDRF teams have been deployed for rescue operations in several districts.
The situation in Mumbai, however, is better on Monday as there has been restoration of some services and flooding at many areas have receded. Slight delay in flight operations has been reported but no cancellations have been reported.
Meanwhile, there has been restoration of many train services as well. All suburban services on Central Railways are operational except Ambernath to Karjat. However, many Mumbai-bound trains have been cancelled as a precautionary measure.
According to the weather department, heavy to very heavy showers accompanied by strong winds up to 45-60 km/hr also expected at isolated places while a warning was issued yesterday for heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar over the next 48 hours.
